This week the FCC officially banned the concept of Internet "fast lanes" requiring internet service providers (ISPs) to treat all traffic equally. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced, "The open internet order puts in place bright line rules that ban blocking, ban throttling and ban paid prioritization fast lanes. For the first time, open internet rules will be fully applicable to mobile. Consumers now know that content online will not, cannot, be blocked, or their service throttled.” The agency also reclassified broadband as a utility to give itself broader authority to regulate it and setting up a high stakes legal battle with ISP’s that are strongly opposing the ruling.

Apple announced a media event for March 9th where it is expected to reveal additional Apple Watch details ahead of the wearable’s April launch date. Mobile gaming is continuing to grow with in-app purchases as the main drivers of revenue. Overall, mobile content revenues in the US, including purchases of mobile goods such as ebooks, games, videos and music will total $9.82 billion in 2015, a 10.3% increase from 2014.
